About
Where Academic Excellence and Artistic Purpose Grow Together
Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy is an arts-focused public charter school serving students in grades 6 through 12 in Mobile, Alabama. The school brings together strong academics, concentrated arts training, student support, and a creative school culture designed to help young people prepare for college, careers, and meaningful lives beyond the classroom.
At FP Carson Academy, students are not asked to choose between being scholars and artists. They are encouraged to become both.
A Tuition-Free Public Charter School with an Arts-Focused Mission
FP Carson Academy offers families a tuition-free public school option with a distinctive focus on academic excellence and arts-centered learning. As a public charter school, FP Carson Academy is open to eligible students and designed to provide a meaningful choice for families seeking a school experience that connects learning, creativity, discipline, and student development.
Our students engage in academic coursework while also developing their artistic abilities through focused study in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. This combination helps students build confidence, think critically, collaborate with others, and prepare for the opportunities ahead.

Learning That Connects the Classroom, the Studio, and the Stage
At FP Carson Academy, learning is not limited to one setting. Students may develop an idea in the classroom, refine it in the studio, present it on stage, or connect it to the world around them through service and collaboration.
This approach helps students see that academic knowledge and artistic development are not separate paths. They strengthen each other. A student who learns to analyze a text can also interpret a script. A student who practices discipline in rehearsal can bring that same focus to advanced coursework. A student who learns to present their work with confidence can carry that skill into interviews, college settings, community leadership, and future careers.
