Our Legacy

Floretta P. Carson Visual and Performing Arts Academy was created from a belief that students in Mobile, AL deserve greater access to both academic opportunity and meaningful arts education. The school’s founding vision recognized a need that too many students with creative promise did not have consistent access to concentrated arts training, advanced academic preparation, and the support needed to pursue college, careers, and creative futures.

Founded through the vision and leadership of Dr. Krista Williams, the school was established to open a new pathway for students across Mobile. From the beginning, the goal was not simply to create another school. It was to create a place where students could be challenged academically, developed artistically, and supported as whole people.

The school proudly carries the name of Floretta P. Carson, whose life and work are remembered for the positive impact she made on students across the Mobile County area. Her legacy reminds us that education can change the direction of a young person’s life when it is rooted in care, opportunity, and belief.

Today, FP Carson Academy continues that work in a new season. As the school grows, its legacy is still being written by the students who rehearse, study, question, perform, create, lead, and learn here every day.

Our story is one of access, artistry, resilience, and possibility. It began with a vision. It continues with every student who walks through our doors and discovers that their gifts have a place to grow.
